Water, no lemon.

When did this happen, America?

I drink a lot of water.  In fact, when I go out to eat, 99.99% of the time, I won’t be ordering a soda with my meal.  I’ve been this way for years.  I guess it started because the only soda that caught my fancy was Dr. Pepper, and restaurants that served Dr. Pepper were few and far between.  (Mr. Pibb does NOT count.)

So over the last few years, I’ve noticed more and more than the waiters and waitresses of the United States have been bringing me my water… with lemon in it.  That’s funny, I don’t remember asking for “water with lemon.”  No, I clearly said, simply, “Water, please.”  When you order a pizza, they don’t automatically put pepperoni on it, do they?  No, you’ll need to ask for whatever toppings you want on the main item you ordered.  So now I am forced to waste seconds of my day adding “no lemon” to my initial water order.

To frustrate things further, since apparantly I am in the minority in not wanting lemon with my water, my waiter usually confuses my request for “water NO lemon” to “water WITH lemon,” and then I am left with the same problem: I do not want lemonful water.  My new official policy is to ask for water no lemon with the emphasis on the NO.  I employ the restaurant servers of the world to go back to the old school way of bringing water when water is requested, and leave the lemons on the trees.

On the same tip, I’ve been using bars of soap in the shower for years.  My roommate just got a luffa, and he swears it is the best thing ever.  I told him I couldn’t use it because I don’t use shower gel, and he and my other roommate are under the impression that the majority of the US aren’t using bar soap, and I’m in the minority.  Is this true?  Am I going the way of the buffalo?
